Now here’s a controversial issue to think about. A new survey has found that one in four of the top restaurants in Britain would not allow diners to breastfeed in public. Also, 7% of the restaurants surveyed said they had banned breastfeeding in their restaurants and a mother would be asked to stop or leave the establishment if she was breastfeeding discreetly!
The survey also found another 17% placed restriction on their diners to prevent breastfeeding and most forced mums to feed in the toilet or move to the lobby. Only 15% declared breastfeeding was permitted if done discreetly.
It seems the stigma attached to breastfeeding in public is still alive and kicking in this day and age! It’s hard to believe really, when you see worse things on TV everyday. I have breastfed in cafes wearing a breastfeeding top on or used a wrap. You honestly can’t see anything! What’s the problem?
Lucy Symons, a spokesperson for the company who conducted the survey said “Breastfeeding is hard enough for new mums without worrying whether they will be allowed to feed their baby while meeting friends for lunch or be asked to leave like a criminal.”
I couldn’t have said it better myself. We really need to support new mums to breastfeed without making it any harder than it already is!

How ridiculous. Don’t they have anti-discrimination laws there? LOL
