Last night I saw an interesting story on 60 minutes on the choice women make on how they wish to deliver their babies. It seems a caesarian is becoming very popular in Australia with figures suggesting that 1 in 3 babies are now delivered in an operating theatre. Many mums are now choosing the caesarian as an elective rather than in case of emergency as in days past.
Have a read of the 60 minutes story Mother’s Choice, which examines the two viewpoints of a natural birth vs medical intervention. I found it interesting that Australia has one of the highest rates of caesarians in the world and many women are now choosing this method over a natural birth.
What do you think? Are Australian mums becoming to posh or even scared to push? Or is it the obstetricians leading the trend to encouraging caesarians?

Hi there, I had a vaginal birth with my first son…it was pretty awful. My water broke and I was not dialating. However, my second pregnancy was twins. My Doctor told me early on that I would have a c-section. I was not looking forward to that, and in the end the c-section was scarier and more isolating that the vaginal birth. Yes, there was less pain, but I was wheeled into an operating room and no one was telling me what was going on, the next thing I know a little baby head popped over the curtain between my belly and legs and the doctor stated baby A and a minute later baby B. I did not get to hold them during the next half hour while I was stitched up. So looking back the c-section was not better than the vaginal birth. I think women should try to do what ever comes natural and not plan it so much.
