How long did you breastfeed for?

At this time of year when everyone is setting goals and resolutions, I wondered about breastfeeding goals. How long do you plan to breastfeed for, or how long did you breastfeed? Often when we start out, our goals might be to last weeks, days or even hours! Often we can surprise ourselves when we finally get it together or on the other hand feel like failures when we fail to reach ’set goals’.

I fed my first daughter for 14 months, she let me know when she was ready to stop by biting me at each feed (only a night feed). The next night, milk in a cup without trying for the breast. I am now feeding my second daughter, 4 months now and still loving it. I’m always amazed at how our fabulous bodies provide this life source for our beautiful children and how such a bond can be created. If only every mum out there could find it so easy!

hi! i am glad to see that a lot of people feed for over 12 months. i had thought i’d feed for 6 months…. until i had a baby. now he is 2 1/2, and still breastfeeding along with his 5 month old brother!

hi! i stumbled upon your blog. just wanna share my story. ive been breastfeeding my son for almost 6 mos now. boy it already seems a year! sometimes i feel sluggish to nurse him at night (im a working mom). at work, at times, want to cut my pumping session coz of work pressure. but i do want to nurse him for as long as i can, hmm maybe a year or so.

Thanks so much for sharing your story and well done on almost reaching the six month mark! It’s good to hear people talk about what it is “really” like breastfeeding. I pumped at work for 6 months too, so I know what you are going through!
