Angelina loses weight breastfeeding

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: October 7, 2008

Did anyone see the latest footage of Angelina Jolie at the premiere of the Latest Tomb Raider Movie? Wow, she has certainly snapped back into shape, looking very chic in a little black number. Apparently Jolie attributes her weight loss to (yep you guessed it)…. breastfeeding.

I know breastfeeding twins would definitely help you to burn up lots of extra calories, but she is super thin! I really think she needs to eat more…

Real Women, Real Stories

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: October 5, 2008

As you know, I’m passionate about paid maternity leave for working Australian women. I was pleased to hear the latest Report from the Productivity Commission, calling for a 20 week paid maternity leave plan (includes 2 weeks Paternity leave).

If you’re still not convinced on the benefits of paid maternity leave take a look at this video Real women, Real Stories. Everyday women discuss their leave experiences. What I found really interesting was the impact of an early return to work on breastfeeding.

Is it just me…

or is anyone else concerned about the whole contaminated Milk crisis in China? It’s a little concerning when formula that is fed to babies is filled with some dangerous nasty chemical. The scariest thing I read in the paper is that formula companies in third world countries actually promote formula as being superior to breastmilk and as a result many of these women never breastfeed! A horrible, situation.

Travelling and Breastfeeding

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: September 15, 2008

Are you planning on taking a holiday? Travelling by plane? Here’s a great collection of tips and hints from the PHD parenting blog on how to breastfeed on an airplane. A must-read for anyone planning to travel with baby in tow. The only thing I would add is nursing tops are fantastic for discreet feeding on planes. I know a lot of my customers have bought our tops specifically for that purpose and said it saved them lots of angst and made them feel a lot more comfortable.

Bon Voyage…. don’t forget to share your tips as well. Happy breastfeeding!

Push it for Paid Maternity Leave

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: September 8, 2008

Carrying on from my previous post, regular readers of my blog will know that I’m passionate about paid maternity leave for Australia women.  Here’s a great video to help “Push” the cause for paid maternity leave in this country. P.S. Great soundtrack too!

The Economic Divide of Breastfeeding

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: September 6, 2008

There’s been lots of talk in the media in the last week about breastfeeding – which is great to see! A lot of debate has focussed on the effect of paid maternity leave on the length of time a mother breastfeeds. It seems the rates of mums returning to work in the first year of their baby’s life is having a huge impact on the rates of breastfeeding.

With interest rates, mortgages and the cost of living high it is no wonder more mums are being forced to return to work earlier than they would like. Advocates of a paid maternity leave system believe 6 months leave for mums would greatly improve the rates of breastfeeding in Australia. Many health professionals believe 6 months is the minimum a baby should be breastfed for and the health benefits and savings for our children would be huge if this goal could be reached by more mums.

An interesting article Link between breastfeeding and low income also discusses this theme and examines a recent study by the Medical Journal of Australia that found “a startling discrepancy in breastfeeding rates between women on high incomes and those on low incomes”.

Study co-author Dr Amir said “Babies should be breastfed for six months and most low-income babies aren’t being breastfed for six months. [Women with lower incomes] need support. You’re a lot more constrained if you are under pressure to go back to work and less likely to be in an environment which is supportive of breastfeeding.”

Let’s hope the government starts listening….

Stylish Wrap Breastfeeding Top

It seems the media is starting to take notice of our Nuvo Collection of nursing wear. It was a nice surprise to see our Stylish Wrap Breastfeeding Top featured in the latest edition of My Child Magazine. Click on the thumbnail above to check out the story.

When you design a product it’s always a little scary, so it’s nice to hear what other people think of the range. That’s another reason I love feedback from our customers – it’s great to be able to help others to make breastfeeding just that bit easier, especially in public.

Show Mummy The Money

Posted by: nuvomaternity on: August 21, 2008

Unfortunately, it’s that time of the year again and I’ve been suffering from the winter lurgies, which is why my poor old blog has been sad and neglected. I’m finally on the up and up, so it’s time to get some blog love happening.

While I have been taking it easy, I’ve had time to catch up on reading the latest edition of Show Mummy The money - a great new magazine for savvy mums. The best thing was I got to read my own feature article “Planning the Perfect Maternity Wardrobe”. It was great fun to share all my tips and wisdom on planning your wardrobe for pregnancy and BREASTFEEDING!

Many mums forget about buying nursing wear for when baby has arrived and find themselves with nothing to wear afterwards for easy breastfeeding. It is really important to plan ahead while you are pregnant when you still have time and the inclination to shop too!

So check out the mag and let me know what you think? Do you have any other tips for new mums to help plan their breastfeeding wardrobe?

Till next time… don’t forget to breastfeed in style!
