Here’s a unique way that the Mums of New York, celebrated World Breastfeeding Week. Don’t you love that powerful image? According to the article Breastfeeding on the Double-D Train, a group of mums staged a public nurse-in on the New York City subway. We all know what trains are like, with crowds, strange people and lots of people staring at you. What a place to make the ultimate breastfeeding statement!
The annual event is held to bring attention to the Breastfeeding Bill of Rights, that affirms the mothers right to breastfeed, room-in with their newborns and refuse formula and bottles in hospital. Apparently the bill was held up in the New York State Senate. It makes you realise how lucky we are in Australia, where most of these rights are standard in our hospitals today.
What’s the strangest place you’ve breastfed in public?

“A woman is the full circle. Within her is the power to create, nurture and transform.”
Diane Mariechild
I stumbled across this quote today and thought it was truly fitting for all the mums out there. So remember this the next time you need some inspiration and motivation!

K-Rudd is shaping up to be a strong breastfeeding supporter with his government announcing it will provide $5 million to establish a 24 hour breastfeeding helpline.
The money will be used to upgrade the existing Australian Breastfeeding Association telephone service to a national 24 hour toll-free helpline. The government has also committed $1.15 million in research funding to help support and encourage mums to breastfeeding.
Support is definitely what new mums need, so it is great to see! Let’s hope the funding translates into making the early weeks of breastfeeding easier for new mums.

Here’s a refreshing perspective on what Dad’s think about breastfeeding in public. On the whole it seems most men are very supportive of a woman’s right to breastfeed in public. Do you think women are more judgemental on the whole breastfeeding issue? It’s sad that as mums, women feel in competition with each other instead of supporting the different choices all women make.

What do you think of this new breastfeeding chair? It is especially designed for new mums to help them breastfeed discreetly in public places such as restaurants and cafes. I love the colours and what a great idea from a 22 year-old student Nicola Hart. Check out the rest of the story here.

Congratulation to Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban on the birth of their new daughter Sunday Rose! The happy new parents are snubbing celebrity tradition in not rushing to sign a million dollar deal for the first baby pics. According to the Sydney Morning Herald, new mum Nicole is too busy “thinking about things like breastfeeding right now”.
With mum Janelle and sister Antonia Kidman in tow, I’m sure they have lots of good breastfeeding advice to pass on. Wonder if she needs some breastfeeding tops?
